STUDIO

The following is a list of all the gear in my small bedroom studio.
I mainly make old school "electro" music in the style of Afrika Bambaattaa, Newcleus, Man Parrish, Hashim, Mantronix, Egyptian Lover etc. Mainly that 1982-1985 era electronic music that you would breakdance to.

DinSync RE-808

The DinSync RE-808 is the modern replica of the famous Roland TR-808 drum machine. All analog. Hand built using the same circuit board and other components as the original.
I use the trigger output to run the sequencers on other gear that have trigger inputs.

Arturia Keystep

The Arturia Keystep is a great midi keyboard that has sequencing and arpeggio capabiltites. I use this for the Behringer Pro-1.

Roland JU-06A

The Roland JU-06A is the modern "boutique" version of the Roland Juno 60 and Juno 106 synthesizers from the 1980s. There is a switch to select which one you want to emulate.
I have the K25m keyboard attachment (with custom wood sides) so I don't have to tie up the midi keyboard.
I use this for both synthy leads and minor-chord string sounds.

Behringer Pro-1

The Behringer Pro-1 is a clone of the Sequential Circuits Pro-One, a mono synth that came out in the early 80s.
I have the Atrutia Keystep midi going in to this for arp clocking, but also for entering notes for the sequencer. Even though the Keystep has its own sequencer, I also have the RE-808 trigger out running in to the Pro-1 trigger input to trigger the Pro-1's sequencer, the old fashioned way.
I mainly use this for basslines.

Roland S-1

The Roland S-1 is a miniature modern take on the Roland SH-101, another mono synth that came out in the early 80's.
I use this for both bass and synthy leads.

Behringer TD-3

The Behringer TD-3 is a clone of Roland's TB-303 bassline synthesizer, used for basslines.

Casio SK-5

The Casio SK-5 is a sampling keyboard that allows you to record and play back sounds chromatically. I use this for various Fairlight samples and sound effects of all sorts.

Mackie 1402-VLZ-Pro

The Mackie 1402-VLZ-Pro is the mixer that everytyhing goes through. It has onboard effects as well as two auxillary send and return lines so you can send any of the channels / instruments to external effects.

Boss RE-2 Space Echo

The Boss RE-2 is essentially the 1970s RE-201 "Space Echo" box, in pedal form.
I use this for delays mainly on the Pro-One, but experiment with it on other gear.

Boss DD-7 Digital Delay

The Boss DD-7 is a digital delay pedal allowing you to tune in a huge range of delay and echo / repeat sounds.
I use this specifically on the RE-808, mainly the snare. Having a different delay pedal allows me to run multiple different delays together.

Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb

The Boss RV-5 is a reverb pedal that gives a range of reverb sounds ranging from plate and room, all the way up to huge canyon sounding effects.
I have two of these, one specifically on the RE-808, and the other for the overall reverb and synths.

Boss CE-3 Chorus

The Boss CE-3 is a chorus pedal that add dimension to sounds.
I use this specifically for the Pro-One.

PreSonus Eris Monitor Speakers

The PreSonus Eris monitor speakers are cheap monitor speakers that sound decent. I know there are better ones out there but I use headphones most of the time anyway.

Audio-Technica ATH-M20x

The Audio-Technica ATH-M20x headphones are a decent pair of studio monitor headphones.

Iphone with Garageband

I use Garageband on my Iphone for recording tracks. A monitor line comes out of the mixer and goes into an iRig unit to get sound into the phone.
I know there are much better alternatives, but I prefer jamming and noodling around with different sounds much more than recording, mixing, mastering and being a nerdy audiophile.
